Year 5/6 Basketball County Final, 16th March 2010

District and County >>

Hoop stars of the future from Primary Schools across County Durham competed against each other to be crowned overall Champion in the recent Primary Year 5/6 County Final. The standard of Basketball on show was extremely high and the scores reflected some very closely matched teams. The schools played each in other in a pool format before being split into a Trophy competition and the Grand Final. This event was supported by the Wildcats Basketball club with Wildcat Joy running the competition, current players Stephen Jones and Scott Morton refereeing the games. The Wildcat players also held a shooting competition with all the players involved and handed out tickets to see forthcoming Wildcat games to teams and also some individuals nominated as MVP's. In the Trophy competition Westlea Primary came out on top after a disappointing showing in the pool games and in the Grand Final Green Lane CofE Primary clinched a convincing win to become County Champions. Congratulations to all the schools for an excellent morning of Basketball.
A big thank you to Bishop Barrington Sports College for hosting the event and again to the Wildcats for providing such important assistance on the day.
