Primary Swimming Gala, Thurs Nov 3rd 09 |
Well in excess of 100 school pupils showed off their water wings this morning, competing in the annual swimming gala at Woodhouse Pool. Teams were striving for a place at the County Final scheduled in the new year at Freemans Quay Pool Durham. After all the individual races in which boys and girls from years 3/4 and then 5/6 had to swim 25m in three disciplines, freestyle, back stroke and breast stroke. The results were very close, with two schools tied for 1st place. The final race decided the winner with Wolsingham Primary clinching victory thanks to a win in the 8 pupil relay.
All participants thoroughly enjoyed the swimming experience and there were some exceptional performances from the individual winners who all received a 1st place medal.
The gala was supported by Bishop Auckland College who provided young leaders to marshall and officiate. Also a big thank you to Woodhouse Leisure Centre, their staff and Wear Valley Swimming Club for all the help on the day.
