Parkside/Wolsingham Cluster Cross Country Competition, 5th Mar 2010 |
The muddy fields at Wolsingham didn't slow the pace down at this years Primary Cross Country Competition, runners dug deep and battled their way round the course. Showing once again the Partnership has some very talented athletes in our schools. Blessed with good weather, the day started off with a fun run for the young year 1 and 2 pupils as a taster for future Cross Country events. Despite their inexperience it was a very close, evenly ran race with Ellie Jackson from Witton-le-Wear and Matthew Wraith from St. Cuthberts crossing the line first in the girls and boys race respectively. The older pupils had the chance to progress through to the County Competition at Parkside Sports College later this month, so the pressure was on to secure a spot. In the year 3/4 races Amy Nuttall from St. Johns Chapel and Ben Clark of Wolsingham Primary beat all comers to claim 1st place. While in the year 5/6 competition Yasmin Newton of Stanhope Barrington CofE won the girls race and an outstanding display of middle distance running from Markhim Lonsdale of Hartside Primary secured a comfortable win in the boys race.
Congratulations to all the winners from the day and we wish them success in the County Final.
A big thank you to the young leaders from Wolsingham School and Community College who acted as officials, marshalls and lead runners during the day.
