Durham County Disability Swimming Gala, 25th Feb 2010 |
Swimmers from the SSP make a big Splash. Pupils from King James' School, Staindrop Comprehensive and Evergreen Primary took part in the first Durham County Disabilty Swimming Competition. All the races were timed over 25 metres and included Freestyle, Backstroke and a partnership based relay.
Star of the show from the Wear Valley/ Teesdale partnership was Ryan Baker from King James School, who won both his Backstroke and Freestyle events- his Freestyle time of 19.71 seconds was the fastest of the day.
Pupils showing ability are to be offered opportunities to develop through the Playground to Podium Scheme. For the majority of the young people taking part this would have been their first experience of a competitive swimming gala and they all performed fantastically well. Jo Barker, the Regional Development Coach for Disability Swimming, attended the event in search of potential talent and we hope a future paralympic star was amongst our competitors!
