Young Ambassadors

In Singapore in July 2005, London won the right to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In the presentation in Singapore, London made a promise to the world that showed the commitment from London to use the power of the Games to inspire millions of young people to choose sport. This became known as the Singapore Promise. The Young Ambassador Programme was born and initiated in the summer of 2006 and a direct response to realising the Singapore Promise. Central to the Young Ambassador programme is the principle of young people 14-19 driving opportunity, engagement and change for other young people aged 5-19

The outcomes of the Young Ambassador Programme:

  1. To develop and support young people as role models and Ambassadors inspired by the 2012 Games for other young people

  2. To promote and advocate the ethos and values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement amongst young people

  3. For young people to champion PE & school sport within schools and local communities and increase participation

The Young Ambassadors:

The Wear Valley and Teesdale School Sport Partnership, like every other SSP In the country, selects 2 Young Ambassadors each year. One Young Ambassador is a Gifted and Talented young sports performer and the second is a committed volunteer in PE, School and Community Sport. These Young Ambassadors are known as Gold Young Ambassadors.

An existing Ambassador is selected from the previous years Gold Ambassadors to stay on as a Platinum Ambassador to continue to be a role model and provide assistance and guidance to the new Young Ambassadors.

In addition to the existing SSP level Platinum and Gold Young Ambassadors, next Academic Year (2010-2011) sees the introductions of a new tier of  Silver adiStars Young Ambassadors. There will be two Silver adiStars Young Ambassadors in every secondary school.
